Curator note: This website is focused on issues and posts only a few articles related to the Mueller special counsel investigation into Russian influence in the US 2016 election. This article is posted because it shows us that this administration and the Republican Congress are willing to put partisan politics above national security and the interests of the American people. This is an example “abuse of power”. They are willing to expose “sources and uses” and put people’s lives in jeopardy in order to undermine the Mueller investigation. Timing? Both Michael Cohen and Paul Manafort have “flipped” and are cooperating fully with the Mueller investigation. Both of these men may have relevant information about Russia and Trump.

National security is not mentioned in this article but the actions demanded, to declassify Russian-related information in the midst of an ongoing investigation, are a direct threat to American national security. This administration has used national security as a reason for many other actions, trade for example, when there is clear evidence that there is no national security threat.

President Trump on Monday ordered the Justice Department to declassify significant materials from the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election, threatening to spur a showdown with federal law enforcement officials resistant to publicizing information from an ongoing probe.

In a statement, the White House said Trump was ordering the department to immediately declassify portions of the secret court order to monitor former campaign adviser Carter Page, along with all interviews conducted as officials applied for that authority.

Trump also instructed the department to publicly release the unredacted text messages of several former high-level Justice Department and FBI officials, including former FBI director James B. Comey and deputy director Andrew McCabe.

For months, conservative lawmakers have been calling on the department to release Russia-related and other materials, many of them accusing law enforcement of hiding information that might discredit the investigation now led by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III.
